Spin of the Day

Rick Davis: The "angry crowds" are actually provocateurs.
When asked about these outbursts, McCain campaign manager Rick Davis said that he didn't know who those people were and if they were there as supporters or to disrupt the rallies.

(Also, Axelrod goes after Rick Davis hard on Fox. (Read it.))

  • Well, we now know that the elderly woman who expressed worry over Obama as an "Arab terrorist" was not a "plant". She is a McCain volunteer in one of the local offices here in Minneapolis.

And, as I pointed out yesterday, we had a former Republican Senator (at the same rally as the one with the elderly woman) advise McCain in the "question session" that he needs to push the smears or risk losing the election.
    Boschwitz is not a "plant".

Davis seems to be making a subtle distinction between a person believing the smears and someone "crass" enough to actually shout those smears at a rally.
Someone who believes the smears is okay, but someone who vocalises the smears is beyond the pale and is therefore a "plant".
    That sounds "reasonable".

  • Oh yeah. Definitely. I don't think there's any question about this.

I just found that line interesting because it assumes such a paranoia within the target group and a belief that the other side would do such a thing.
