Missed in the exchange today......

In the midst of the McCain corrections today,
A woman stood up at the meeting.... and told Mr. McCain that she could not trust Mr. Obama because he was an “Arab.”

Mr. McCain replied: “No, ma’am, he’s a decent family man, a citizen, who I just happen to have disagreements with on fundamental issues. And that’s what this campaign is all about.”

Because being an "Arab" precludes being "a decent family man, a citizen?"

  • To me, that's one of those, imagine if he said it about a larger, more politically active group....

  • Some of whom have been very involved in the Wall Street shenanigans you mean?

  • I don't really like that.

I meant ANY major group. Imagine if he'd implied that about Hispanics, for instance.

The outcry would have been huge.

My point was not that some groups are protected. My point was that Muslims are not.

  • I know what you mean. Arabs and/or muslims are a safe target.

  • This is ignorant. You are making assumptions out of nothing. What he said could have and most likely was directed about her entire statement that she "could not trust him because he was an arab" not just the arab part. Its ignorant people who make these kinds of assumptions that are ruining our country. I'm not now and i never was a big supporter of Mccain, but purposefully taking anyone's words out of context is ignorant. The woman said something ignorant the Mccain tried to do the right thing and yet people still try to make it out to be "wrong". Ignorance.
