Picture of the Day
Dutifully wearing her McCain-Palin shirt. Dutifully ignorant.
I think this is one of the biggest moments of the campaign.

It must be hard to be a McCain supporter and stay on message.....

If you want to analyze the 'citizen' in the t-shirt. Look at her hair. Disheveled and looking confused. She shouldn't have got anywhere near the stage.

If she thinks Ay-rabs are coming to ravish her she's being overly optimistic .

This poor woman thought that she was being a good Republican by parroting what she heard on the local talk radio station, and Mean Old McCain just slaps her down.
Rick Davis is saying that these people are "plants" from the Obama campaign.
But former (Republican) MN Senator Rudy Boschwitz got into the act:
"Boschwitz began by saying that he probably knew and admired McCain better than anyone in the room. Then he said that he was afraid that if McCain didn't bring up some of Obama's past associations, he would lose the election. He added that McCain had to do it himself because the media wasn't going to do it for him."
Boschwitz lost his last two election bids to the late Wellstone. In the last bid, he went far, far right; he thought he lost before by being too "liberal". I don't think you can characterise Boschwitz as an Obama "plant", but there he is pleading for more smears from McCain because the media won't do their dirty work anymore.
I have been seeing a disturbing number of comments on wingnut blogs calling for violence (armed rebellion, no less) if Obama is elected. This could be the kind of "emergency" that would serve as a pretext for suspension of the election results, or worse.
And I know it sounds paranoid, but you should read these crazies and see what you think.

Lew, I'm wondering how the crowds are going to react going forward.
Do they do what the McCain campaign wants, or do they decide that only their crazy assed comments will save the GOP?
...
Matt, I don't know if you've seen the video, but she's clearly not sharp.
....
anon, I have a feeling she sees them all around her rightnow.
....
Todd, I've been having a nice stock market/stress free Saturday, so I haven't seen Rick Davis claiming plants.
As I said above, I don't think this completely stops because, like Boschwitz, it's not only that they believe this crap, but they think that the McCain camp won't go there so they have to. If only vereyone else knew what they did....
And, I've seen some of the crazy stuff, but I don't think we're seeing an election suspension. At this point I don't think Bush wants to be president anymore. Maybe four years ago when he still thought he was right and god's choice, but not now.

Actually, the Twin Cities has a relatively large and highly-visible population of (Muslim) Somalis. In her own ignorant way, she is most likely conflating "Muslims" and "Arabs".
The local right-wing radio has been pounding on the fear of 18,000 armed Somalis taking over for over a year now. Hardly a week goes by that the city is not warned by these droids to stock up on canned food and ammunition for the imminent "uprising".
When one talks about the Republican "base" in Minnesota, these are the kind of people it consists of. The old pro-business Republicans have been crowded out by highly-religious, extremely gullible, "End Times", rabid loons.

Really? Armed Somalis? I thought I had it bad down here when all the right wing crazies were talking about the black Katrina refugees raping our women.
....Unrelated, I always find it fascinating how some countries transplants end up settling in different regions.
Michigan's Muslim community. Houston has a huge Vietnamese community.
It's just weird to me how that works out.
(The Vietnamese are in Houston because it is the largest shrimp fishery in the US, and when the first wave came over in the 70's, it was a place they could go and make a living.)

Houston has a huge Vietnamese community.
Minneapolis also has one of the largest Hmong communities in the country, and a large number of Tibetans. Go figure.
With regard to the Somalis, the "armed" part is just assumed. That 18,000 figure also encompasses women and children, but facts are not these fear-mongers' strong suit. The "spread" of mosques (from one to a total of two) is also a grim omen, and attendance is up in both of them (gasp!).
This is one of the reasons why I am hesitant to dismiss some kind of armed reaction to the election out of hand. These are people who already consider themselves under threat, and an Obama White House would merely be the nod for the crazies to make a "pre-emptive move".
