Slow morning

A US airstrike in "hot pursuit" just across the Pakistani border killed 11 Pakistani frontier police. The Pakistanis are understandably reacting strongly. (Not yet clear exactly what happened.)

(Reuters) The Turks conduct more airstrikes in N. Iraq. (So frequent now they're rarely mentioned. Are they having any effect?)

And, (NYTimes) A kind of creepy/kind of sad story on those who are keeping the Clinton's "enemies lists."

  • South Koreans Rally Against US Beef
In South Korea last night, many tens of thousands of demonstrators protested the government's decision to resume imports of U.S. beef. The protest has swelled into a major challenge to new President Lee Myung-bak, and prompted his entire cabinet to offer to resign. (NPR)

This can't be just about beef products? Is there something else going on here?

  • I assume. I was looking at some of the protest photos earlier, and it was huge.

The SOuth Koreans are consistently some of the most passionate protesters in the world.

  • It's about Korean nationalism according to this article...

  • There you go. That makes a little more sense.

But I still stand by my point that the South Koreans protest/riot with a passion like almost no one else.

By world standards, their people care about and know more about politics than just about anywhere else.

  • The French, maybe?

  • Different kind. More frequent, but there's a different passion.
