How does the RNC balance its value?

If you look at the fundraising landscape right now, the RNC is sitting on a significant cash advantage over the DNC. The broad understanding is that almost all of that money will be expended to assist the McCain campaign, BUT, what about the Republican House and Senate efforts that are also woefully behind their Democratic opposites?

Does the RNC really spend most of its assets on a McCain campaign that looks likely to lose while letting go of some of those House and Senate seats they might be able to hold onto?

Has the McCain campaign "taken over" the RNC the way the Obama camp has taken over the DNC, and does that mean that House and Senate members are being left to twist on their own?

Yes, but they really believe they will win.

does that mean that House and Senate members are being left to twist on their own?

Certainly. That's why the GOP is looking for candidates who can finance their own campaigns or that have big ready-made donor bases.
Here in Minnesota, Erik Paulson was selected to run for Ramstad's House seat based on just those criteria.
The GOP has twice as many Senate seats to defend as the Democrats do this cycle.

The Democrats are also catching up.

  • Well, what happens if the RNC starts to think McCain won't win? Do they keep pouring all their money down that hole? Would they have a choice?

The moment they shifted, McCain would be declared dead.

So, I don't see any way that the Congressional folks aren't being served up on the altar for McCain's poor chances.

There is story going around today that big GOP donors who previously backed Bush are shunning McCain.

But Mike, just think back to 2006 and all of the optimistic Republican predictions prior to those elections. These people don't live in the same reality as the rest of us. A brief look at RedState confirms this.

They really think that America still supports staying in Iraq until we have "won".

I agree. They are gambling the farm on McCain. They believe that those Congressional candidates that lose in November will simply be punished for not being conservative enough.

Republicans believe what they must, not what they think is reality. I apologise if that offends you.
