Isn't it about time to start making overtures to India, however insincere those efforts may be?
We've already blown $10 billion on Musharraf and have nothing to show for it. Spending 2 or 3 billion on India would really shake up Pakistan. They fear an Indo-American alliance more than they fear the Taliban. Just having Obama make such noises would likely produce positive results at this point.
As I've said before, it is in Pakistan's interests to keep Afghanistan unstable. They've stopped pretending to read off our script. India is not only a stable democracy, it is also facing serious threats from her neighbours. By the U.S. backing India, Pakistan loses an ally, strengthens their primary enemy, and still carries all of the risks associated with turning a blind eye to the Taliban.

This blog seeks to highlight abuse of power, deception, corruption, and just plain bad ideas in government and corporations.

I think that was part of the nuclear deal that has since stalled out.
But, more broadly, Republican presidents have always preferred Pakistan in the rivalry.
