Flashback - 2008 RNC convention - Night 3
NBC political director Chuck Todd, weighing in shortly after Sarah Palin’s fiery speech before the Republican faithful, declared: “Conservatives have found their Obama.”.
.
I thought this was kinda pertinent with Palin abandoning office Sunday and the WaPo story this morning showing weak Palin support from anyone but the fundies.

The media continues to focus no deeper than the superficial. Look at their coverage of any issue. With few exceptions, if any, the corporate media is all about theater -- ginning up controversy. They will elevate the vapid loon to create tension; just as they will tear down a rational, reasoned argument to create tension.
At the time Palin read a aggressive speech and fired up the crowd. That, to the media, was all Obama was: a smooth talker who fired up the crowd. No need to actually look as substance.
Freakin' idiots.

Stray thought: Is the birther issue the right wing's answer to the left's "national guard" charges?

I could see that parallel because the Bush ANG story was intended to undermine his image as able to lead the military.
On the other hand, the ANG folks weren't invoking xenophobic racial stuff.

No, I know the ANG allegations weren't racial or whatnot.

I've heard the birther movement paralleled with Florida recount issue. Either way, it appears the GOP is drawing out of the Dem playbook, and choosing the dead-end plays.
