It seems to me like Tom Ridge would have a really good shot at that Pa Senate seat, and yet he decided not to run.

Or... what do Republican insiders know about Ridge that we don't know. What is the party willing to do do Ridges "good name" in order to get their winger on the ticket?

That's a fair guess.
Ridge is somewhat risk averse and being torn down might damage his marketability.

I think Ridge faces the same problem Specter did--an ultra right GOP that insists on nominating someone even crazier than he is.
