Open Season
This would be that "definitional phase" everyone was talking about.
How do you think it's going so far?
We're now almost to 96 hours.

Palin might or might not be a good governor or a good Vice-President. We don't know yet. But this whole Palin business is really coming down to the question of McCain's judgment: if this is the kind of call he makes on something like his VP pick, how will he do on items of greater moment?
China holding so much of US's debt.
Russia redefining itself as a strong player.
Cuba transforming itself from within.
The changes in South American identity, and their oil politics.
Balkan and former Soviet countries attempting to join modern Europe.
The space program- the Moon and Mars.
Darfur genocide, and the wider question of Islam in Africa.
Exiting Iraq in a thoughtful and expeditious fashion.
Rebuilding the American military.
Rebuilding... the Constitution.
Constant change in technology.
And all those little things that continue to happen: brushfire wars, political fights and revelations, bad weather, changing rivers, water rights in the west...
Oh, right... and the economy.
I really think Palin's just there as a distraction.

Dead on.
Palin is (or at least should be) all about McCain's judgment.
It's another in a series of partial information gambles in McCain's campaign and life in politics.
If the mood on Palin congeals, the focus will likely turn seriously towards McCain over a week or two.
