From John McCain's vetter...
The main vetter only "thinks" we've seen everything?
The NYTimes has the most damning "vetting" article, so far.
Asked whether everything that came up as a possible red flag during the review already has been made public, Culvahouse said: "I think so. Yah, I think so. Correct."

I've been seeing indications (such as the one you cite) over the weekend that the media seems to be withdrawing its "free pass" on McCain.
The negative ads started a general disillusionment with McCain among the media, but now the radical shift in direction of his campaign seems to be giving the punditry the signal that the rules have changed. And with the Conventions, for all intents and purposes, out of the way, there is no more "wait until after (insert excuse) before getting excited" rhetoric to be spun. And McCain is behind in the polls.
This could be very bad for the McCain campaign, because they have been relying on the media keeping McCain in soft focus.

I think you hit a key point.
I would also add, though, that the media focus turned negative when Scmidt came in, not just for the negative, but also because of the hostile press operation he launched. Suddenly reporters who asked the wrong question didn't get another one for a week. Suddenly, access was virtually cut off. And, suddenly, the campaign started to significantly stretch the truth and talking point non-answers to hard questions.
I would wager it's definitely tied to the Schmidt campaign change.
And, they ar tottering on the edge. There was an unstated point that Palin was a gamble because they were losing, the implication was that if she worked she could turn it around, but also if she didn't they were going down in flames.
So, no that the media is deciding Palin might have been a bad gamble, the coverage is turning.
The polling over the next two weeks is going to be key.
As I pointed out on Friday, the proble with framing a gamble is that you're then crippled by a coupl bad polls creating a narrative of loss.
