Palin "lawyers up" in Troopergate
Word out tonight that Sarah Palin has engaged legal representation in the Alaskan legislature's probe of "Troopergate."
To me this doesn't indicate any greater jeopardy, but, more likely, an effort to stall/slow walk elements of the investigation past the election.
(Her deposition was expected to happen in the next few weeks.)

Word is now that Palin will withdraw from the campaign, likely by the end of the week. There's just too many questions, and the GOPers are none too happy about her selection, though James Dobson is. (And who'd be surprised?)
Nice blog here.

I'm not sure I believe that. Do you have a reasonably credible source?
It would demolish McCain's chances, turn him into a joke, and anger the GOP Christian base.
I just don't see how that happens.
And did you read Dobson's statement on Palin's daughter?

To the extent Troopergate is an issue, it's nearly just as big an issue hanging over her head as it is resolved. I don't see the campaigning upside to slow-walking the investigation.
I think McCain is stuck (is that really the right word?) with Palin for the duration. He can't reject her.
That said, if I were in the Sarah and Todd's shows I'd withdraw for the sake of my family. I don't know how you put your pregnant daughter, special needs infant, and soon-to-deploy son on hold just for political advancement. She's running for political office; an office she has little understanding of and appreciation for. And it's not like she had to prove herself on the campaign trail over 18 months earning the cred to get to this point. She was plucked from relative obscurity and placed on the pedestal. She has very little skin in the game. As I said, if it were me, I'd be out. I just couldn't do this to my family.
(Then again, she's an Evangelical Free Agent. Self-appointed inerrant knower of God's mind... Some of these folks really get into the whole martyr complex. She might actually thrive on dragging her family through the gauntlet of the national media.)

Well, whether slow walking is effective really depends on what the investigation is finding, you know?
Better to cry "political persecution" than to ave the evidence public. But, we'll see.
And, I agree. I don't see how Palin could leave the ticket unless something horrific appears or she could claim illness.
I won't make a judgment on her family and role, but if she were to step aside, she would come out tarnished, and that could affect her future.

I don't want to make too much out of the Troopergate thing, but I do think it effectively undercuts her anti-corruption claims.
I think the clams of political persecution fall flat because, a) it's a bipartisan and/or independent investigation, and b) it's already been admitted she (or her "office") was directly involved when she initially said there was no contact. Besides, even an official charge would be rebutted as political persecution of her Polly Purebred good deeds.
I think a cloud is enough to damage her corruption-buster image. At least among all but the true believers.

Right. Just the stink of it taints her.
As you point out, we're talking about the effect on an entire spectrum of voters which will vary alot.

The negotiations between McCain and Palin were actually caught on tape.

Funniest part is where he doesn't know her name.
