Swiftboating David Iglesias

Holy Crap. Take a look at this. There's an attack ad from a proxy group running in N.M against fired US Attorney David Iglesias.

Iglesias holds no office, is not running for one, and is in effect a private citizen, and yet, an astroturf outfit run by one of Heather Wilson's donors is smearing him with radio ads.

What the hell kind of radio station sells time for that?

  • Why attack a critic of the WH? Particularly a private citizen, and by a known surrogate of the WH?

Sometimes the most obvious answer is the correct one.

It shows that the attorney scandal has legs. Remember the Watergate break-in didn't bring down Nixon—the cover-up did.

  • I might argue that the why has more to do with Heather Wilson's reputation than Iglesias.

There is certainly a case that this might be a national effort, if so, it means Iglesias is the key, but think about Heather Wilson.

She barely scraped by in her reelection bid in 2006, 2008 looks like it may be an even worse environment, and now she has a local US Attorney openly accusing her of trying to tamper with/force prosecution of Democrats.

Taking him down would be key to her reelection effort. She only won in 2006 by something like 400 votes.

So, maybe national, but I thought I might introduce the local case.

This doesn't make the action any better.

    Mike
