Picture of the Day - 2
A mortar attack on a school was too small an event to make the news yesterday.
I doubt it was small to them.

When it rains (mortars) it pours.
General sense I'm getting (totally gut level) is that the sectarian violence is ticking up. Dare I say the only thing the escalation is escalating is the level of anger, distrust and violence?

Yeah. I would agree.
My hunch is the insurgents pulled back to surveil the new US tactics and emplacements and now have resestablished their travel routes.
Something I don't think is getting much play is the non even way the crackdown is being practiced. Big raids, big violence in Sunni neighborhoods while the Shia get requests and mother may I.
Sunnis are being scooped up wholesale while the Shia are telling the US it's okay to arrest this guy but not that guy.
The Sunnis are fighting because they are getting no eqality out of the Shia government despite the promises.
The surge has limited some of the neighborhood battles, but it can't/won't stop the bombings.
(Although the cleansing appears to be coming back in Baghdad.)
