The permanent Republican majority
Much has been made about the Bush administration's failures both domestically and on the world stage, but I think, perhaps we should add another.
Certainly it was never more than a pipe dream, but Bush's incompetence has also greatly failed his party by undermining their aspiration for a permanent Republican majority. They were talking about a generation of Republican control just two years ago.

Well, we have something to be thankful for with Bush. He's screwed up Republican chances for years to come.

Exactly. It was not inconceivable two years ago that the Republicans could hold their majority for another decade. And now, Bush has lost it.
Bad for Republicans, bad for America.

Guess what ? the republicans divided and separated themselves. Bush had an agenda from the 1998 liberation of Iraq act. The congress approved this and but Clinton sat on his hands. His 1999 war games of Iraq had 144,000 troops with 40,000 deaths.
