Thought

Judd Gregg once voted to abolish the Commerce Dept.

  • Will the Commerce Department under Obama be more of a political holding pen for Gregg? Will they conduct studies and issue reports that will be received with great publicity, only to be tossed into a drawer?

I know Gregg isn't part of the New GOP insider club with Kyle, Cornyn and McConnel, but he IS a strong arm in the Senate on budgetary/financial matters. Is this a play to make Gregg (GOP) seem relevant, but in the end impotent?

Look, I don't "get" the whole Gregg appointment. But Obama has shown that he has a much longer view (vision) than most pols... and most civilians. So I'll trust him to make the decisions he needs to, to achieve long term success.

  • Traditionally, Commerce pushes free trade (to other countries) and run trade junkets for friendly corporations.

It's a powerful job in it's relation to US corps, but it really doesn't have any real policy power going into the administration. At least traditionally.
