Well technically he's only infallible when issuing proclamations of dogma. And even then, I believe he needs to specifically invoke the proclamations as being made ex cathedra.
But I'm splitting hairs.... Among catholics that Pope is supposed to be perfect. Or at least the most perfect human being on the planet. As for me... not so much. I think, whoever he is, he's as much politician as pontiff. And in the case of Johnny Ratz... a bit of a parochial thug.
I think you misunderstand the doctrine of papal infallibility. As epm says, it applies only when the pope is teaching the whole church on matters of faith and morals. Things a pope says privately, or on other subjects, can be wrong.
"Infallible" is probably not the best word to describe it. "Protected" is better. We think the Holy Spirit protects the pope from teaching error under these very narrow circumstances. It really doesn't happen very often.
I don't know any Catholics who expect the pope to be perfect. It is a matter of historical fact that popes have made many mistakes and done many bad things over the centuries. Everyone knows this. Yet somehow the church survives despite the many faults of her members, including popes.
This is not the America I was brought up to believe in.
This blog seeks to highlight abuse of power, deception, corruption, and just plain bad ideas in government and corporations.

Is that it? I have no idea. The whole thing's mumbo jumbo to me.
And Johnny Ratz was always something of a "rebound girlfriend." He was always bound to to be a disappointment.

Again, I'm not an expert.
Just trying to be snarky.
