It has begun

By the time you read this, they're probably already voting in Dixville Notch, NH.

  • Dixville Notch and Hart's Location both went Obama. Sure this is less than 100 voters, but these are also very libertarian/conservative pockets. Both went Bush in 2004.

If it's indicative of anything, it's that Obama's message resonates with traditional conservative/libertarian voters. We'll see how the Seacoast area does, which is the monied region, but I expect NH will go Obama. (I felt this even before today.)

  • They mentioned that on CNN. Dixville hasn't voted Dem since 68.

There was quite a whoop when it was announced.

And, all the polling supports NH to blue. (If nothing else, you're in that east coast section where Bush polls 10% approval.)

  • Yeah, but much of NH, like parts of Maine, still cling longingly to the days of Yankee Republicanism. So these early results -- as you acknowledge -- or not insignificant. They are, by definition, historic.

  • Maybe they can buy Chris Shays a cup of coffee in that lonely Rockefeller Republican diner.

  • I love that name: Dixville Notch! Rolls off the tongue, as it were.

  • It sounds like one of the towns in "War of the Worlds."

  • Here's a crappy shot I took of The Balsams resort in Dixville Notch, NH. I don't have anything of the town itself... then again, there's not much of a town!

  • Hard to believe that with a resort that size, only 21 people inside the township to vote, you know?
