Quote - Howard Dean says Obama wanted Lieberman to stay.
He said that the Senate had acted "in the spirit of unification, which is what the President-elect wanted."
And, Lieberman cited Obama as well,
Lieberman singled out the "appeal by President Obama himself" as a key reason he's staying.
So, if you want to get mad, don't get too mad at the Dem Senate. Even if he didn't push it, it was Obama who offered political cover.

I suspected Lieberman would not still be around -- at least as a committee chairman -- if Obama didn't want him around. Or from an only slightly different angle; if Obama wanted Lieberman out, he'd be out.
Obama is clearly setting the stage for a tough (Rahm Emmanuel) but non-ideological (Lieberman, McCain) style of governance. We'll have to see if the Know Nothings Republicans (not ALL Repubs are such) will see this as a sign of weakness and an invitation to attack, obstruct and demonize.
Interesting times. Interesting times...

epm said it better than I can. I'm sure Lieberman knows he's on notice.
Waiting to hear Republican reaction to this general approach.
I'll be alert for further developments.

Looks to me like Lieberman is going to have to behave himself. Which won't be easy with an ego his size.

I was wondering if there was any Quid Pro dictated to Lieberman. We probably won't ever know.

Something may show up if Obama decides to take the Mideast Peace process seriously.

That's a good point. And the Clinton's would really factor into that, too.
I may post something around that.
