Well, they're shouting it now. I'll be interested to see in how the public handles it.
But kudos for the media for pointing out that Obama was all of eight when this was going on.
I mean, it's not like he was exorcised by a witch doctor while running for office or anything...

The Republicans (Bush) shouted "Financial Armageddon" and no one really believed them. So....
(Granted the mechanics of the credit crisis is way over most American's heads... mine included.)

And I wonder if the McCain camp has already shot alot of their credibility. Was it just a month ago when they were being blasted in the press for lying? The Palin gambit. The suspension gambit.
It's not like they're starting from a dead on clean slate of integrity.
On the other hand, the media likes juicy.
The real question is, whether the attacks are covered as literal or whether the media puts them in context.
My hunch right now is towards the latter, but that could easily change.
(If it's seen as substantial;ly moving poll numbers, it'll be covered with more credulity.)
Also, I think it really matters how McCain handles the debate. If he comes across as negative and the spot polls say he lost......

What is really being implied by the "Ayers issue"?
Nothing.
The purpose is merely to create doubts, not prove anything concretely.
Obama had a friendly relationship with a co-worker who was never convicted of any terrorist acts while being part of an ostensibly "revolutionary" group.
That "revolutionary" group disbanded over thirty years ago, and was most notable for being fairly lousy at robbing armoured cars, which is hardly the route to overthrowing the American government.
No sane person could look at Ayers - an elderly, washed-up ex-radical - and see any kind of credible threat to the nation's security. The innuendo, therefore, is that Ayers "mentored" Obama in his "revolutionary" doctrine.
Instead of pursuing a "revolutionary" path, however, Obama obviously has sought power by legitimate participation in the electoral system.
This is the antithesis of being a "revolutionary".
So the smear goes nowhere. It only has the potential to create vague doubts about Obama's allegiance to the political process among those already inclined to view him with suspicion.
