Picture of the Day - 2

Kansas City, just hours after that 100,000 person St. Louis rally.

I don't know how Missouri breaks, but the enthusiasm is there.

  • Is it safe to say now that the "celebrity" meme has failed miserably?

Isn't it clear that "Bible Spice" is no match as a crowd draw compared to Obama?

I'm getting the impression that people really aren't that afraid of the terrorist/secret Muslim/socialist as the McCain campaign seems to think.

By my electoral count (yours may differ), MO puts Obama over 270 all by itself. Rasmussen has the state at O +6 (10/17).
    Also from that poll:
"Fifty-one percent (51%) believe that raising taxes on those who earn more than $250,000 a year will be good for the economy. "

Joe the Plumber seems to be a dud in MO.

  • I think some of this is more about stirring broader racial questions, but, broadly, I don't think it's having much impact past the 35-40% line.

As for the map, I'm kind of working on the presumption of 270+ including Va. right now.

I haven't really been watching Missouri that closely, because I figure it's down the list. If Missouri turns, he's probably already won Fla, Colo, NV, and some others first.

In other words, I doubt Missouri is the deciding state. I figure it's probably about where Ohio is on the list. Probably Obama, but still on the bubble, going mostly towards margin of victory, not decision.

No, it's not the deciding state.
It's another one of those states that, if McCain were to lose it, Obama wins the election.

Obama has 264 EVs locked up right now, by my count. MO (11) definitely would put him over the line. It's a "must-win" for McCain.

Before, MO was favouring McCain slightly, so one could see him squeaking by. Now, Obama leads by six, so it's very dangerous for McCain. But there are greater dangers out there for him than MO.

Still, after all that McCain has thrown at Obama, and seeing how "socialism" plays in MO polling, I don't see how McCain can come back from a six point deficit there. And the MO SOS is a Democrat.

  • Yeah, that's my point.

If you're asking me now, he takes either Florida, Virginia, or both, and we know he won before I sit down to dinner.

  • Re: "Socialist"

Isn't this almost an arcane term? I mean, does this resonate with anyone under 50 or 60? Really. They might as well be calling Obama a Pinko.

The GOP seems to be stuck somewhere between 1953 and 1972, or something. I mean, McCain's vision of the future is 1980, ferchristsake! You know, his "hero" Ronald Reagan and all that.

  • Oh, and diggin' the image... Complete with ginormous phallic symbol and American flag. Right out of the GOP stagecraft playbook. :)

Actually, although that flag, in reality, is enormous, it's almost subliminal in the image.
