Either gonna make you feel better or not. Me? Not so much....

His campaign manager, David Plouffe, was more pointed when asked about the findings at a briefing on Monday, telling a Washington Post reporter, "Your poll is wrong."

Remember how Obama won the primary.... By focusing on the delegate count, not merely states won. I expect the same is true now... Focus on electoral votes not flat, national polls.
About the polling: What if the number simply reflect a surge in solid red states? I don't know if the polling accounts for that or not.
It's simply beyond my capacity to understand how McCain/Palin gets such a positive bounce (8-10 pt swing?) from that convention among the great middle of America. The fringe I get. I'm sure Palin did wonders for them in the fundie/white trash belt. But in a broad cross section? Kinda makes me wonder about the polling methods and if they were using constant sampling criteria over time... or were they "fine tuning" their methodologies.
I know, I know.... I'm being paranoid.

Right, and I don't generally doubt their aptitude with numbers.....
And, yeah, the thought of a red state bouy pushing up the national numbers had crossed my mind.....
And, yeah, That bounce seems way out of whack with the rest of the year....
And, I have no reason really to doubt Plouffe on this....
But I just hear an echo of Karl Rove saying your math and "the math," and that echo makes me a little uneasy, you know?

But let's remember Rove's "The Math" -- which we all first hear of in 2006 -- was all bullshit.
My question is, can the Obama campaign play on the same brass knuckles, faux outrage, make shit up playing field that the GOP is so expert in running.

I don't know if they have to.
The press is beginning to call bullcrap on some of this. The bridge to nowhere claim was being debunked in every major print outlet. The early feedback on this whole "lipstick on a pig" thing seems to be blowing back on McCain.
They do have to play hard, but the McCain camp's credibility is beginning to become a press issue.
We'll have to wait and see, but if that image congeals a bit, it could be a big deal.
On the math, so far the Obama camp has been great on the math. I just couldn't help hearing that parallel.

Just to clarify, I wasn't suggesting that the Obama campaign needs to stoop to the levels of filth to which the McCain team will. Only that they need to be able to play effectively on that playing field. I think the Obama campaign needs to develop an edge, which they seem to be, but they need to keep the vibe that they're about solutions and moving forward.

Pardon the sports/hockey metaphor, but I'm a believer in "clean but hard hits" from Obama. Not going out of their way, but taking the opportunities that come in the flow of the game.
You can't count on the refs to call the other side's fouls, but you also can't risk the penalties yourself.
