The Palin/Couric farce

The McCain camp has granted Katie Couric another Palin interview, but this time, it's a joint interview with both Palin and McCain.

Leaving aside the obvious takeaway that Palin isn't capable of being interviewed on her own, I would wager this is a ploy by the McCain campaign to quiet the Palin complaints among their base.

They're not trying to convert people like me, but I would guess that they're trying to assure sympathetics of how McCain will "tutor" her, trying to recreate an image of how they want people to imagine the ticket.

Also: Howard Kurtz last week's Palin/Couric interview
And the worst may be yet to come for Palin; sources say CBS has two more responses on tape that will likely prove embarrassing.

Correction: Apparently, the "embarrassing" answers were from a different set of interviews with Palin and Biden that CBS will air Wed., Thur. in the lead up to the VP debate.

  • I think McCain and Palin together on TV is a bad idea. We've all commented about the slightly odd visual dissonance this evokes. At best, it'll looks like Bring Your Daughter To Work day... At worst, it's a Benny Hill sketch.

  • I sure hope that CBS isn't pulling their punches by not airing these "embarrassing" responses by Palin.

It's one thing to add your own two cents like Jack Cafferty (even though it's totally warranted in this case), but they should at least have the stones to release the footage of her putting her own foot in her mouth. This election is too important to be worried about saving face.

  • EPM, especially since McCain's going to be there to "help" her along.

    .....

Jeff, I don't think they are. They didn't edit the aired version particularly friendly, and Couric's comments leading in and out weren't kind.

I don't think you can really accuse CBS of soft playing all this.

I'll be very curious about Couric's approach in this new "joint" interview.

(We don't know exactly what this Kurtz mention means.

But, I guarantee that if there is more embarrassing out there, it will likely come out, at least unofficially.)

  • McCain is her phone-a-friend life line?

It would be a self parody... they keep setting the ball for SNL to spike it! HA!

  • I hadn't made that connection. That's pretty funny.

  • JEFF, I updated the post. The CBS embarrassing bits were from a different interview set, and will air Wed/Thur on CBS.

  • Awesome, I can't wait to see it!

  • Remember way back when (3 weeks ago) when she was going to be the next Reagan?
