Palin Snowflakes
Has Sarah Palin ever uttered or written (or even read) a single word on foreign policy? (In the era of Google, I'd think that if she'd ever said anything we'd have heard of it by now.)
This is supposed to win over Clinton voters? "Palin opposes abortion even in the cases of rape and incest...."
The presentation is clearly that McCain picked her because he thought he couldn't win without "shaking things up."
But, they did completely stomp out Obama's convention speech.

For the time being, that's true. But even if he had picked someone like Pawlenty, the media focus would likely be strong enough to achieve the same end.
However, with the RNC coming up the media will no doubt be making comparisons to the DNC. The Obama speech will then be back in the minds of voters.
Even if the speech isn't in the front and centre of voters' attention at the moment, the primary purpose has been achieved: to make Obama seem likeable, non-scary, competent, and trustworthy - and also establish doubts over McCain.
Obama has picked up a large bounce in the national polls, and because the polls are commonly over three days we could see an even greater rise. I know you don't trust national polls, but it's indicative of the effectiveness of the Convention.
I have a difficult time seeing the pick of such a hard-line pro-life VP as any kind of particular asset. McCain has already made his positions clear on the issue, so what new people would he be drawing in? Not Hillary supporters, as you note. At this point the PUMAs are mostly just Operation Chaos refugees anyway. Generally, men are the most likely to be pro-life, and of those men they are highly likely to be Republicans.
I could see a better choice having been a racial minority business leader, possibly an Asian or Latino.

Yeah, any pick would have stepped into it, but this pretty much drowned it out.
I have a forming theory that I think you'll appreciate. I have this feeling that today maybe Palin's best day, or maybe since the convention is coming and the Republicans control the floor, this may be her best week.
On the Obama speech, like I said early this morning. That speech came a long way towards bringing him across the presidential threshold for leaners with doubts. That was the goal.
Those who were sympathetic, but doubting likely got what they needed. And, if he wins his 45% plus sympathetic leaners, he's very likely over the line.
It's interesting, this morning they wre framing Palin as a way to reach out to Clinton voters. By tonight the theory is she's to energize the fundies. I think that's probably more accurate, but I still don't think the 2004 fundies plus coalition is enough for McCain to win.
She really doesn't add anything issues wise, no expertise. It's all about an image they wanted.
Personally, I still think Romney would have been a better choice.
(Plus as long as you avoid a revolt, the fundies will show up top vote anyway. Republicanism has become part of their religion.)
