38 million
38 million people watched Obama's speech according to Nielson (not including CSpan, PBS, or any internet viewing.)
.....more viewers than the Olympics opening ceremony in Beijing, the final “American Idol” or the Academy Awards this year......
Furthermore, the four-night Democratic convention ranks as the most-watched convention of either party, Democratic or Republican, since Nielsen began measuring conventions in 1960.

Not counting CSpan or PBS? The two most non-intrusive coverage outlets! Oy.

Well, they don't pay Nielson for the service.

It was mock outrage, but I didn't make that clear.
I didn't know about the pay-to-play with Nielson, though I should have. I just figured CSpan and PBS are non-commercial outlets so they naturally wouldn't track them... since Nielson is mostly about stations/networks setting advertising rates.

That is big, which is good news because it was Obama's defining speech and featured some very solid blows to McCain.
Gallup has Obama leading 49/41 already.
