State of the race

(AP) "Barack Obama is quietly planning to take over the Democratic National Committee and assemble a multistate team for the general election, the latest sign that he is putting rival Hillary Rodham Clinton and the nomination fight behind him....."

  • Closing sentence from the article:

"But Obama can't afford to move too quickly toward the general election, or he will risk alienating Clinton supporters who are already emotional about the likelihood of their chosen candidate's closely fought defeat."

Isn't "emotional" one of those misogynist words. Like way back when Biden said Obama was articulate? Good thing they didn't say hysterical.

  • I think it depends on who is reading it, but yeah, probably, I think so.

The easiest way is to look at a parallel. Obama supporters would probably be described as fervent or zealous, not "emotional."

So, yeah, in this case, I think so.

  • "I think it depends on who is reading it..."

Which is exactly my point. When a person or group feels put-upon, they will read racism or sexism where there is none. This isn't to say there is NO sexism out there... even in some traditional media opinion/analysis pieces.

I'm just saying, if you look at how the Hillary campaign (and supporters) twist "the numbers" and if you consider the level of disbelief ("how did we go from inevitable to this?") and, dare I say, desperation, then I think I can understand why the Hillary people see misogynists everywhere, the way McCarthy say commies everywhere.

  • Yeah. I get what you're saying, but we're again a point where the perception determines it, and as I am not a member of the group in question, I don't really want to stomp on this too hard.

Yes, the Clinton campaign has intentionally been stirring this for political gain, but, some of it is there.

(I also think there's a difference between saying "everyone's sexist" and "the Obama campaign has run a sexist campaign." The latter I don't think is true, but it's being caught up in all this.)
