Clinton's black vote

In Texas, the Democratic Primary vote was 57% women, 43% men, in Ohio, it was 59% to 41%, both far overrepresenting turnout in a general election and breaking heavily for Clinton.

If you go by the the Clinton's "black vote" precept, these primaries don't count, right?

(Important: That argument was garbage then, and it's garbage now.

I just want everyone to remember the ridiculousness of this when, just one week from today, the Clinton camp trots it out again in Mississippi. All votes count!!!)

  • Well, of course all votes count (unless you live in Michigan or Florida.) I didn't hear the Clintons saying otherwise.

And all primaries count... but not equally.

Some primaries are more important by virtue of size (Ohio vs. Vermont?), some by virtue of timing (New Hampshire versus Hawaii?), some by virtue of expectation (Texas vs. New York).

If a candidate wins a state where the circumstances don't favor them (say if Obama had won Ohio, or Hillary had won Illinois), that's important. If they win a state they were supposed to win (Hillary in Massachusetts, Obama in Mississippi)... not such a big deal.

  • So, should we go back and elevate every Obama win where women were more than 50% of the vote?

    That's all of them.

I'm just trying to inoculate for the inevitable Mississsippi spin.
