I live in the very conservative Shenandoah valley and the sad, depressed, denial filled republicans are actually thinking Allen has a future in politics. Sadly Virginia came so close that perhaps this is true. But the word they are running with is that a respectable (term used very loosely in reference to Allen) bowing out without a recount, may keep him viable as a national candidate. These folks need help.
I wouldn't be surprised to see him reemerge at some point in Virginia,(many, many years down the road,) but his national appeal has been burned. The national Republicans wouldn't back this guy, not only for the objectionable stuff, but also because when under pressure he has been a horrific campaigner. Macaca wasn't the only mistake he made under pressure.
Plus, as he's the last to lose, this defeat will always be attached to him.
No, he'll end up with some part time board member job getting government contracts from cronies.
Agreed. I've actually been thinking that there is an enhanced threat of corruption with the influx of all of these out of work crooks being turned over to the private sector.
On the bright side, Aleen, the cut loose staffers, and all the rest, have so alienated the Dems, they're not going to be getting too many favors.
So, they will all be trying to cut from the same small slices of discretionary earmarks available to Republicans on ways and means (assuming the Dems don't kill that like they discussed,) and trying to lobby through the defense and intelligence budgets.
It's going to be tough going for them. (Too bad, eh?)
This is not the America I was brought up to believe in.
This blog seeks to highlight abuse of power, deception, corruption, and just plain bad ideas in government and corporations.
