The policy failure in Iraq is front page everywhere
Wow. I never thought I'd see this. On every major front page there is a story on the failure of the Bush Iraq policy.
Maybe this is a Tet-like turning point.
NYTimes: Bush Faces a Battery of Ugly Choices on War
WaPo: Major Change Expected In Strategy for Iraq War
USAToday: White House nixes partitioning Iraq
(discusses alternate plans.)
LATimes: Republicans Are Forced to Explain Iraq Position
WSJ: U.S. Faces Iraq Crossroads

Doesn't this seem to be following from the introduction of James Baker III into the policy apparatus?

Yes, very definitely, yes.
All fuelled by the leak in the NYSun of the ISG/Baker draft of their report "ruling out victory," and discussing the various best of bad options.
Then, the announcement yesterday by the military's top spokesman in Iraq, Gen Caldwell, that the current strategy isn't working officially opened the topic for discussion.
Republican Senators, the British army commander, the top US nato guy, now the ISG and the military themselves have all said it's not working over the past weeks.
