I passed by the Marble Collegiate Church on Fifth Avenue in NY this morning and saw yellow ribbons hanging from the fence outside. Being a little sleepy, I couldn't figure out what they were until I walked over and saw the name and age of an American soldier who was killed in Iraq on each ribbon.
This may sound like a cliche, but it really has set the tone for my day. Sometimes I forget there's a war going on in Iraq and people are dying while I'm buying my morning coffee or writing my school lessons for the day. The ribbons were a good reminder.
Yeah, that was kind of my point. I saw this as a visual metaphor of the fact that this marine will never forget, and yet in ten years, assuming the US is out of Iraq, all the rest of us will.
This is not the America I was brought up to believe in.
This blog seeks to highlight abuse of power, deception, corruption, and just plain bad ideas in government and corporations.
