Rove's new position, a change in security clearance?
I'm just going to point on this one to Think Progress. I don't know if I buy the argument, but, being a blogger and thus untethered by ethics, I just find it too salacious when coupled with the Plame and related leaks not to mention it.
Frankly, I'm more prone to believe that Rove gave up his Deputy Chief of Staff title as a condition of Josh Bolten taking the Chief of Staff job.
Also: Two more thoughts on the White House "shakeup." Greyhair pointed me to the idea that who in the world would want to take a job at this whitehouse right now. Besides the scandal and the taint, you're not even going to be able to cash in on your connections when you leave in Jan 2009.
Second, anybody who is to come in at a high level, cabinet secretary(Rumsfeld) or other significant post would have to go through a confirmation. Is the Bush administration really in a position to answer questions or politically push an appointee through right now?

Well, I suspect that the Republicans will continue to softball nominees, but that said, I agree, what a dead-end career move "cleaner of the Neoconican mess".

As you know, George Bush IS the law, so security clearences have no power of the will of the Dear Leader (peace be upon him). The shakeup is more of a giggle, particularly with Rove who's "new assignment" will only involve a change in letterhead.

In a similar vein that fundamentalist religious terror groups continue to recruite suicide bombers, so to the White House will dip into it's pool of martyrs to fill positions. Of course that pool is shrinking, and the credibility of its members doesn't extend much beyond the cult itself.

Kvatch, yeah, they would certainly gain confirmation, but does the administration really want a series of questions on Iraq for example broadcast on every newscat for two days? Even if the nominee doesn't answer, the questions will enter the media stream, and right now, the administration is trying to regain control of the media.
EPM I like the fanatic comparison.
