Actually, she's a moderate Republican running as an independent, but right now in my home state of Texas, we have Rick Perry who is Bush's hand picked successor, more Crazy Christian than anybody in the Bush admin, more corrupt than most. He is about as bad an example of a "movement conservative as there is out there." He's not as dirty as Delay, but his positions are to the right of Delay.
And, Strayhorn is a Repub, but pretty moderate. Control gov't spending, government out of people' s bedrooms, doctor's offices and lives, more libertarian. She wouldn't be a bad governor.
The guy we have now is awful.
And, it's also possible that she could split the Repub vote and Dem Chris Bell could win. I'm at an anybody but Perry point.
I say a pic on the NYTimes online that had Scotty veritably gushing with adoration as he looked upon the face of W.
There is something creepy about W. and his ability to surround himself with a cult of adulating worshipers... And I think cult is the most appropriate word to describe his inner circle.
If they were smart they'd bring in somebody with the Bill Clinton charm and turn them a little loose and lighten the mood in the room. Somebody who could do tongue in cheek with the press corp who could remind them that they're all playing this game. Somebody far smarter than McClellan.
But, I don't think that's what they're going to do. I think they're going to get another talking points stone wall. Jesus, they might as well get that singing fish that was such a popular kitsch gift a couple years ago.
What about Kinky Friedman for Texas Governor? I dunno what his politics are (I suspect probably a little right-wing with a touch of libertarian pothead around the edges), but I bet he would be pretty entertaining!
Yeah, I would say common sense left wing with a touch of libertarian pothead. But I've gotta say he's actually campaigning pretty well. I listened to one of his speeches, and there is some tongue in cheek, but he also is taking it kind seriously and does have a few real initiatives.
He'll never win, there's no way Texas would go for it just on his reputation because we take ourselves far too seriously. His main function if he meets the petition limits will be to siphon off the nader type anti establishment dem vote. But, at the same time, that siphon will be far less than the Strayhorn siphon off of Perry.
It's gonna be a bit of a mess in the end. I'm hoping for Strayhorn or Bell with no preference for either yet. (I haven't really looked at the specifics of their platforms.) ANYBODY but our current governor. He is deeply corrupt, does favors for money(Walmart, Texas Lotto)and is one of the worst "Christian" Republicans in the nation.
He has been contacted by the white house. But, seriously, would you go from being a radio host where you get to pick the topics and hang up on callers to press secretary?
I'm sure Faux News has the coniving skill, deep pockets, and political will to set up some sort of creative sabatical package that could hold Tony over for the nest 2 1/2 years while he serves at the Dear Leader's pleasure. It would be a coup of ego for Murdoch and Ailes to have a former White House press secretrary in their quiver of demagoguery.
This is not the America I was brought up to believe in.
This blog seeks to highlight abuse of power, deception, corruption, and just plain bad ideas in government and corporations.

An independent? Now that would be worth seeing. But would you really want Scotty to taint the campaign with his bag of tricks?

Perry to the right of DeLay?!!
Now that is scary!
Eek!!

EPM, I agree. One of the distinguishing marks of a cult is devotion to a charismatic leader.
And, James, he is.

But now the serious question is who should Bush choose as a replacement?

CNN's been reporting that Tony Snow from Faux News has been offered the job as White House press secretary.
But... I thought he was doing that already...

Plus, I would think it would be a big pay cut.
