Little does she realize, that her unthinking loyalty to George Bush will haunt her the rest of her life. That, and the fact that Republicans will never put her on the ticket because she isn't married.
Damn that's one sour expression. Maybe she's contemplating a bruising presidential run. Personally I'd love to see a cage match between Condi and Hillary! :-)
I'm mixed on whether she'll run. The Republicans are running the perfect reluctant candidate campaign right now which would let her nobly come in and be drafted as the next candidate, but there are alot of negatives.
There are a few ugly realities working against her.
Single , as noted by left of center, which means allegations/rumors of lesbianism and affairs. I don't like it, but it's just a fact. She would have to come up with a beard.(I don't know the word for the female equivalent.)
Also, if she ran again, she would carry all the baggage from this Bush admin's policies but not have the religious ties. So her defense would have to be intellectual, not from the rabble, and that's alot harder to sell.
Also, let's face it, she's black and she's a woman. Realistically, that's a minus with some ignorant people, and quite frankly, most of those are republicans.
So, practically, I see it as a stretch, but for the George Bush, it would work. She has proven herself to be malleable under his hand. That's why I think we're getting the reluctant candidate thing.
But, they may also just be raising her profile for a future run 2012?
And, Kvatch, I agree, but I think Hillary would tear her apart. Part of Condi's personality is a sort of deferential quality which comes across as timidity. If somebody got in her face, I think she would look weak.
I think the Rep leadership recognizes that it might be a mistake to run anyone so closely associated with the current white house. They would be too open to attack for being an obvious part of the lies, illegalities, corruption, etc. I think they will put a fresh face forward, but not a congressman. Another governor I think. As far as the Dem's, thank god there is a good alternative to Hillary. I loved Bill, but Hillary is a little much for me. I'm so glad Al has re entered the spotlight.
Again, not sure she would be the best choice for the Repubs, but Bush may want her acuse he thinks he can control her, and usually, the sitting president tells the party, not the other way around.
And, Brian, I go back and forth on Hillary. As to electability, she has a lot of people who really hate her. I mean hate her. On the other hand, she's prtty vetted, I don't think there will be any new revelations after 5 years of Ken Starr.
I also think that if she works it right, she can remind people of how good the Clinton years really were.
And, as to Al Gore, not a bad choice, although I gotta say I really liked the bearded "lumberjack Gore."
Again, he's been vetted thoroughly, so not a bad choice.
On the bright side, all three of these people are wicked smart and all three come in with significant foreign policy experience, and to me that's a big deal. None of them, I think could be flattered about their "place in history" and lied into a war.
But I think by the end of this year, Condi will be tainted with Whitehouse scandal and a run will be out of the question.
And somebody tell John Kerry to forget about it. I don't want to hear it. You had your swing. No let somebody else have a turn.
Personally I don't want Hillary or Kerry to run. As mike said, Kerry had his chance and blew it. Clinton, is just a wierd parody of a woman, who says and does anything to get what she wants. So who does that leave? I liked the bearded Gore better too. How bout Tom Vilsack? Middle America, not a congressman or Senator. Not ripped up by the GOP. Edwards? he's cool when he sits down without a script or message of the day. But when he gets his politico face on it's quite apparent.
Watching the 2004 election, Edwards was strong in small groups, but everytime his audience got big, he kind of fell off.
His two americas message wasn't bad, but it required a sense of "us-ness" that was difficult to transfer onto a bigger stage.
If we're just throwing out names, we have to mention Biden. I don't know Vilsack, but of the people in this thread, I would think he would have the strongest shot. He handles his negatives well, covers the whole emotional spectrum, sympathetic, forceful, etc.
And he does outraged pretty well, and he's still smart and subtle enough to not go overboard. If attacked, he'll attack back.
Drawbacks, his ego and love of his own voice(not political drawbacks just annoying) being from a small east coast state, and having a loooonng voting record that can be picked at.
But importantly, he is very good at distilling down message. He can respond simply, offensively, in a quotable way. None of this, " I voted for it before I voted against it" crap."
This is not an endorsement, I just think of the early field, he has the best chance of winning the national election. Strong with women and minorities.
If you haven't heard Steve Earle's song, "Condi, Condi," buy it or find it somewhere. It is truly a blast. Here are the lyrics.
Oh Condi Condi beggin’ on my knees Open up your heart and let me in wontcha please Got no money but everybody knows I love you Condi and I’ll never let you go Sweet and dandy pretty as can be You be the flower and I’ll be the bumble bee Oh she loves me oops she loves me not People say you’re cold but I think you’re hot
Oh, Condi, Condi Oh, Condi, Condi
Oh Condi, Condi I’m talkin’ to you girl What’s it gonna hurt come on give me a whirl Shake your body now let me see you go One time for me Oh Condi I love you so Skank for me Condi show me what you got They say you’re too uptight I say you’re not Dance around me spinnin’ like a top Oh Condi Condi Condi don’t ever stop
Oh Condi Condi Can’t you hear me call I’m standin’ in the street outside your garden wall Pocketful of money belly full of wine Condi in my heart and romance on my mind Listen to me Condi don’t be afraid I come here tonight to chase your blues away I’ll never hurt you I’ll treat you right Oh Condaleeza won’t you come out tonight
Pretty little Condi precious as can be Bet you never had another lover like me
This is not the America I was brought up to believe in.
This blog seeks to highlight abuse of power, deception, corruption, and just plain bad ideas in government and corporations.
