I think getting control over Pakistan's nukes was originally part of the grand plan. Not sure about now.

Well, that's the price of ally-ship.They could go neutral and lose all the financial support and trade advantages. They would also have to go to the Chinese for help against India, but the Chinese would push them to do more against the radicals that cross over into China as well.
