Whackjobs go mianstream in Oklahoma

"Tea Party" members are trying to form a state government recognized militia to stop "infringements" by the federal government.

Frighteningly, some state politicians (with an eye on the next election) are encouraging them.

  • I have lost my bearings. I don't know whether to be frightened or to laugh. Are we looking at the 1850's all over again? Are these politicians just cynically sucking up for electoral reasons, or are these really separatists?

Really. I'm completely without context on what's going on with the fringe. But there had better be a major smack down soon. Because this could get real ugly.

  • I think most of the politicians are sucking up.

There are a few crazy ones who really believe, but I think the majority are just humoring them.

  • Yeah. I gotta stop reading some of this stuff. I tend to be too emotional and I find myself snapping between thoughts of "The End is Near!" and just laughing at the complete cluelessness of these people.

We have a court sysystem to judge what is constitutional and what is not. You don't get to just vomit out your personal declarations of constitutionality and impose it on the nation through a paramilitary coup.

I wonder if there's any correlation between these folks and literal, biblical fundamentalist. The too tend to spit out declarations of infalible divinity and impose it on others through intimidation and violent rhetoric.
