Sarah Palin recounting her first meeting with Michelle Bachmann,
Palin responded in kind, recalling a meeting in Alaska: “I knew that we’d be buddies when I met her when she said, ‘Drill here, drill now.’ And then I replied, ‘Drill, baby, drill’ and then we both said, ‘You betcha!’....”

  • For some reason this made me think about the Group W bench in Arlo Guthrie's "Alice's Restaurant."

  • What struck me was that this was the way they both thought and spoke. Like rock groupies singing lyrics to each other on meeting, and deciding that meant they were of the same soul......

  • There's a certain arrested development of high school giddiness here. Though I like Lew's idea better, I think Mike hit on the groupie mentality at play. Not just with Palin and Bachmann, but with the whole "movement" they represent.

It's as if, for them, politics is a weird blend of sports fandom and religious fervor. Neither of which is open for debate or reason.
