The only country allowed to spy on the US
Former NSC figure, Livermore and NASA researcher Stewart Nozette was arrested in an espionage sting by the FBI as an agent pretended to be from Israeli intelligence. At the time of the arrest, investigators made a very clear statement that there were no charges against Israel.
The only thing is, they actually caught Nozette's trail from his past dubious dealings with Israel. And, it's not like he didn't give them ample reason to go after Israel for the espionage. Talking (on tape) to the FBI agent posing as an Israeli spy, Nozette said

Well, they already have. Every first version included the exculpatory, Israel was not involved, and significantly downplayed his previous "consulting" work.
And this was very real stuff to lose control over. The stuff I've seen said it had to do with satellites and missile launch detection. Realistically, not too big a deal if the Israelis have it, BUT, then the US no longer has full custody, and where it goes from Israel is unknown.
In the media's defense, it's not like the US side isn't downplaying the Israeli connection, too.

Best I've heard yet is 'Israel has it's own satellite technology. Doesn't need the US'.
