Quote - Unbelievable
Pat Buchanann writes an unbelievable opinion piece saying WWII was not Hitler's fault.
See, according to Buchanan, none of it was Hitler's fault. If only the world had recognized Hitler as a man of peace, he wouldn't have had to kill millions of Jews, gypsies, and "undesirables.".
(And, Do like that minimization of the Holocaust? The attempted programmatic genocide of millions is reduced to the image if a train pulling into a station.)
But where is the evidence that Adolf Hitler, whose victims as of March 1939 were a fraction of Gen. Pinochet's, or Fidel Castro's, was out to conquer the world?....
Because Hitler wanted to end the war in 1940, almost two years before the trains began to roll to the camps.
See, according to Buchanan, none of it was Hitler's fault. If only the world had recognized Hitler as a man of peace, he wouldn't have had to kill millions of Jews, gypsies, and "undesirables.".

And the traditional media types look on with contemplative expressions, nodding like unthinking dimwits, giving legitimacy to lunacy.

We'll wait and see on the response. This just hit this morning.
I would like to think that wiuth his recent white race/black race stuff coupled with this, he'd be blown out, but he's always survived before.

He's seen as a legitimate conservative intellectual/academic by the establishment. He can say anything and be treated as a legitimate voice of reason.
By -epm, at 2:40 PM
Sort of. The "popular" conservatives know enough not to recognize him as one of theirs.
He's really an outsider, and with his history on race, that's not really a surprise.
By mikevotes, at 3:26 PM
An outsider? Sorta, I guess. He's a staple on cable isn't he? And is he still on the McLaughlin Group?
What does it say that Buchanan is an outsider, but Hannity, Beck, and Limbaugh are insiders? Kind of a distinction without a difference. Who are the other popular conservatives?

What must the rest of the world citizenry think of us? We've all gone batshit insane...the crazy talkers anf then the rest of us who somehow can't address it in any mainstream fashion. No one to ask "have you no shame?"...
Now parents are bitching cuz their kids "have" to listen to the POTUS. A black POTUS has caused us to lose our minds, courage, decency and I'm sure our mantle-hold on "leader of the free world". It's a f#cking embarrassment to try to explain this to my kids...we have crossed over to crazytown and the door is locked behind us. I'm none-to-pleased that no Dem has taken the lead on this - Dean could do it but the MSM will just crack jokes abt the scream...Obama as president can't do it all...who led the "whip" with FDR or LBJ? cuz we sure need a goddamned clone! Now, a man who actually ran for POTUS is writing that Hitler was just misunderstood and really didn't want to be a bad boy...jesus h christ on a crutch! We have gone mad!!

EPM, Yeah, but MSNBC and McLAughlin are the European basketball leagues to the conservative NBA.
...
Anon, I don't know if you saw it, but there's a little movement for parents to keep their kids home from school that day.
As for Hoard Dean, he's been benched by the Obama folks and the mainstream. I don't know the whys, but, despite all his help in the election, he's been more or less banished from any position of power.

If Beck, Malkin and FoxNews are the conservative voice, then it's moot that Buchanan's rant's are ignored.
The progressives who put Obama in office expect their vision of change to be delivered. They don't give a rat's ass about bipartisanship, or gangs of six. They voted for an ideal, not a party.
A failure on the part of Dems to deliver meaningful, effective progressive leadership and change will result in the Dems being sent back to the wilderness. Despite the pronouncements from the circle jerk club that is Beltway Punidtry, America is a center-left country. Particularly on the issues of health care reform, and issues of personal social issues.

I'm not so sure. Two part system and all that. I find it hard to believe that "progressives" are going to go vote Republican or stay home in the face of the prospect of this version of Republicans taking power.
On the other hand, some of the traditional spotty turnout groups might slide a bit, the young, minorities, etc.
By mikevotes, at 8:17 AM
Agreed. I'm thinking a "Nader" affect. Maybe not Ralph personally, but a split that gives the Republicans and opening.
I aslo think there will be enough frustrated "why bother" voters out there who will just stay home. The vast majority of Americans are not that politically active anyway.
By -epm, at 9:01 AM
Since we're talking 2010 congressional, third party won't play that big a role, but turnout certainly might.
(But all that is a long way away. Alot will happen over the next 14 months.)
