This has nothing to do with anything on your blog but I've been following it for 4 years.
I was laid off in January and I start as a contract programmer today. 7 months without work. I've had seasonal to full-time work since I was 12. I've probably aged 10 years over this.
Things are looking better in the Midwest. At least for me.
