Thought for the Day

If John McCain had had the courage to stand up to the anti-abortion wng of his party to pick the respected and capable Tom Ridge as his VP choice, both the country and the Republicans would be in a better place.

He didn't have the courage, or smarts.

I think if he opposed the bailout, he'd have been higher in the ratings. In Minnesota Michelle Bachman won by opposing the bank bailout.

  • I think there's a good argument that being gainst the TARP might have been good for McCain.

On the other hand, he was also getting blasted for not knowing much about the economy, and if the TARP had failed, the stock market would have dived even farther. (I argue that on the country's mood and panic at that moment, not any economic argument.)

  • As for Bachmann, I live in Texas. We've got people like her here, too.

It's a weird chemistry of a tilted district with people who vote based on party rather than really examining the candidates.
