Everybody's trying to test Obama
(Guardian/Reuters) Israel tries to rewrite its operating terms under "the road map," trying to claim that dismantling some of the tiny, non-government sanctioned outpost settlements is enough to allow them to construct and expand the massive settlements around Jerusalem and in the West Bank.
Removing the "outpost" settlements is really nothing, because those crazy enough to create them on their own will just start again as soon as they get the chance.
This is about pushing Obama to see how far they can go.

>Netanyahu told his right-wing Likud faction on Monday that Israel would have to dismantle what it considers illegal outposts, as demanded by Washington, since the issue of Iran was more important, newspaper reports said.
"I identify the danger and that's why I am willing to take unpopular steps such as evacuating outposts. The Iranian threat is above everything," the mass-selling Yediot Aharonot quoted Netanyahu as saying.
"There are things on which you have to compromise."<(from Ha-aretz)
This stuff must crack Obama up.

Also note that all these statements and headlines come right before the Abbas visit.

Mike talked about NK's logical endgame. What is Israel's endgame? Inflame the entire Arab world against it?
South Korea is the poor crazy teen-ager flailing out at the world while Israel is the rich crazy teenager that knows that the US will pay the bills while it slaughters Palestinians with impunity.
NK and IS opposite ends of the same spectrum.

Except that Israel does have influence whereas N. Korea has none.
And, my guess is that the rightist ISraeli endgame looks very similar to where we are now. Repression in the PAlestinian areas, a fractured leadership there, and continued encroachment.

Abbas visit, trip to Cairo, Iran election....it's all connected.
The strategy is to keep repeating it over and over...wear him down.
