I suspect the covert activity actually involves rewarding local informers for providing drone targets. But who knows?

Oh yeah. I don't think on the ground US personnel sight every strike, but I would be extremely surprised if there weren't US personnel on the ground in some capacity.

Somebody has to liaise with the local informers...the Af/Pak border is pretty fluid. And there were rumours about US Marines being in the Marriott Hotel blast. But that seems to have faded away. There was talk of 'trainers' too.

Must be some. But I think a 'typical' American would stand out like a sore thumb. They probably use double agents and people who blend in. Dangerous job in any case.
