I can just see Michael Steele at the Blockbuster, renting old 90's movies, then scribbling down "urban" phrases and repeating them to the WashTimes so he can sound street.
Newly elected Republican National Committee Chairman Michael S. Steele plans an “off the hook” public relations offensive to attract younger voters...

“We need messengers to really capture that region - young, Hispanic, black, a cross section ... We want to convey that the modern-day GOP looks like the conservative party that stands on principles. But we want to apply them to urban-surburban hip-hop settings.”

  • The ONLY Republican principle is that there are NO principles, none at all, just make it up as you're going along. Lies, smears, race-baiting it's all part of their game plan.

  • Okay, I get that, but do you really think they can pull off "street?"

    Really?

  • No way, there is no way at all that they will pull it off for real.

There is away it can be done though that will give the illusion though.

    1) The GOP anoints someone has having the street bona fides and that person adopts and starts aping the GOP line.

    2) This doesn't have to be based on anyone in reality. As long as the media give the relationship legs it becomes viable.

    3) With viability comes legitimacy.

    Remember "Joe the Plumber"?

  • This kind of thing is for "base consumption". The Faithful need to hear that there is a Plan; this automatically means success to them.

  • I tend to agree with Todd.

The people we're talking about, hispanics, blacks, know their way around tokens and know when "the white man" is talking down to them.

And it doesn't get mush whiter than the GOP political arm.

(Joe the Plumber worked because it was aimed at folks who already agreed.)
