Maybe we should be happy that the Israelis only attacked Gaza. There were people talking about/pushing for an attack on Iran in these last days of Bush.

They haven't given up. Just a change of tactics. Actually I think there's some reluctance in the Pentagon....that and what it would do to oil prices.

I know. I've just been thinking back to all the bomb Iran talk over the years, and all the predictions that Israel would go in this post election window.

Right now the Israeli line seems to be specifically directed at Hamas, not Palestinians in general nor even other Palestinian political factions (Fatah, PNA?). However, the disproportionality of their attacks have, I think, not been in their own self interests as it has made it difficult for Egypt and Jordan and other Arab states to be seen as "supporting" Israel.

One of the things I did this morning was look back to 2003, the last time the Israelis were going to "dismantle" Hamas.
Hamas ended up winning the elections from that operation.

-epm I think the Peace Process, two state solution whatever is effectively dead. The Israelis have decided they will never be loved so they might as well be feared.

Have to wait and see. To me, this looks more like the Israelis building the security wall on Palestinian territory. Trying to create a new reality on the ground before negotiations begin.
