Toppling Hamas
The NYTimes has an interesting "news analysis" piece which posits that the real goal of the Israeli offensive may be to remove Hamas from power. (by force?)

Good article. It covered all the points. Hamas represents resistance. I think ultimately Israel wants to destroy Palestinian aspirations. I'm not sure if that's possible.

Yeah, that's kinda what I was saying. Good thought provoking article, even if I don't totally agree.
Despite the fact that Hamas and Gaza represent a relatively small organization/population, I don't think you can destroy them by force.
The dynamics of the region mean that there is lots of support for Gaza coming from the outside.
