Do the Senate Dems see Lieberman the quintessential example "Keep your friends close, and your enemies even closer."?
To me it seems a no-brainer: flush Lieberman. Make a clean break. Thank him for his help in the past and wish him well in the minority. How politically dangerous is it to cut him loose?

I think you demote him, and then put it on him if he wants to leave.
You've had your discipline and either he has to be a petulant whiner and flip, or, by staying, he presents contrition.
