And, yes, I know.
I've frequently thought that the whole Rather thing was a Rove set up. "Leak" fake documents, and then seed a friendly skeptic to put the focus on Rather rather than the Air National Guard story.
No proof, but that's always been my supposition.

And of course, the existence of the fake documents never disproved that Bush failed to fulfill his military commitment. But they sure did kill the story.

Right. It smelled of a very effective Rove trick.
I don't know if you know Rove history, but there was a very nasty governor's race in Texas where Rove (allegedly) bugged his own candidate's office, then brought out the bug in a huge fuss blaming the other side.
