So, the McCain answer is, dirtier still.......

I hadn't thought of this before, but as you tour the new anti-Obama sleaze out there, (RJC ads "Pro-Palestinian," Virginia GOP photoshops Obama and Bin Laden, and nasty, nasty robocalls,) make a note that this new level of putridity is all launching today.

With the debates now out of the way, McCain doesn't expect to have to answer for his tactics anymore, or for those of his supporting groups, so now he can let the nuts and racists loose. (What, is FoxNews gonna ask him?)

Shoulda seen that coming.

Some 18 days and 12 hours left.

  • So I guess we have our answer to the "loose with dignity" question...

  • Can you say "over"?

I really thought McCain was holding something back, but apparently he's got nothing.

I hate to put it in these terms, but seriously, he will be beat by a black guy, and that is something....unfortunately.

I can't decide if I should be upset that this election is as close as it is when it should be 20 points, or if I'm happy that the U.S.A. will actually elect a black man to the highest office.

Seriously, I can't figure out how I feel about this.

    Time....

  • EPM, they're going to try to two track it to keep McCain's hands clean, but I don't think there's any way if they run this dirty to the end.

    ...

Praguetwin, They said that about Clinton, too. It's in the campaign's interests to fuel speculation that they "have something" because it keeps the "he/she could still win" narrative open.

As to 9 vs. 20 points. Frankly, that was always a bit of a fantasy.

There are about 45% party members or "independents" sympathetic to one party's message on both sides. The Dem bloc is a little softer, but a little bigger. You really can't expect either side to chop too far into the other's 45%.

Especially on presidential elections, 85-90% don't start from a neutral position.

So, understand that 10%, 55/45 is a pretty big blowout in terms of voters available. (I think it might well be closer than that.)
