Hey there sailor. Is that a pistol you're pakin' or are ya just glad ta see me?
Seriously, does she think all you have to do is pretend you're in a summer stock production of "Annie Get Your Gun" and you can govern a nation? I'm pretty sure the answer is yes.
I wrote this post this AM, but I don't think I'm going to put it up:
The GOP and Palin make alot of her "just being average," but, thinking about it this morning, I wonder if reminding people of all the arguments they've been involved in or witnessed over the last eight years with "average" people saying semi-informed, semi-vapid things (on either side) is really the way to go.
Sure she's not "Washington," but she also seems very similar to the innumerable non-ending arguments I've watched throughout Bush's term.
Yes, she came across as more competent, but she also reminded me of all those "joe six packs" blathering on, semi-informed.
I felt that neither of them embarrassed themselves (and I was slightly surprised by the extent to which Palin absorbed her debate coaching), but neither was my opinion moved in the slightest by this theater.
This is not the America I was brought up to believe in.
This blog seeks to highlight abuse of power, deception, corruption, and just plain bad ideas in government and corporations.

A vague thing, but do you know what I mean?

Do you think that after 8 yrs of Bush, Americans are ready to try "smart" for a change, rather than "aw shucks?"

I don't have any idea. I am, but, you know, my projections of the electorate frequently seem to miss.

It's occurred to me that these two candidate, while in the same debate, were trying to "win" different prizes.
Palin was trying to convince people she isn't just a vapid self-parody. That she could stand with Biden for 90 minutes and not melt down.
Biden was trying to convince people he is -- no, that the Obama/Biden ticket is -- the more serious, more presidential.
To that extent, both candidates "won" the debate.

The wink looks rehearsed. It says 'Look at me guys...I can handle 'em.'
Some will love it, some will be turned off.

EPM, right.
....
r8r, You gotta credit Steve Schmidt who took over her training out of desperation with a couple days left and turned it around.
And, the CW seems to be that base voters feel better, but nobody else really moved.
....
Anon,
I've been amazed anecdotally how brutal women I run into have been about Palin's "cute" act.

"I've been amazed anecdotally how brutal women I run into have been about Palin's "cute" act."
Me too. But modern women confuse me anyway. I guess some see being 'cute' as pandering to men.

It's not the "cute" that pandering, it's the "act"
By -epm, at 11:59 AM
Anon, I think that's it. Plus, I think they also see it more clearly as they've probably seen it used by other women (they didn't like?) in the past.
...
EPM, yeah.
