Palin's 17 year old daughter is pregnant.

(Maybe a better post tile would be, "Now can we ask her how she feels about birth control?".... or maybe "Papa don't preach." Later: I left out "Juneau.")

I guess THIS takes Sarah Palin out of "fundamentalist of the year" running.

Of course, the right will make excuses, (we do the same thing on our side,) but I do think it's a pretty good indictment of the "abstinence only" Sex Ed that Palin champions , not to mention her positions on birth control.....

And, check this out,
McCain officials said the news of the daughter's pregnancy was being released to rebut what one aide called "mud-slinging and lies" circulating on liberal blog sites.

According to these rumors, Sarah Palin had faked a pregnancy and pretended to have given birth in May to her fifth child, a son named Trig who has Down syndrome. The rumor was that Trig was actually Bristol Palin's child and that Sarah Palin was the grandmother.

A senior McCain campaign official said the McCain camp was appalled that these rumors had not only been spread around liberal blog sites and partisan Democrats, but also were the subject of heightened interest from mainstream news media.

So, the mainstream media is looking into those allegations being floated on Kos?

It's clear the media is digging into Palin very hard. After all, in just three days they've already gotten her to admit an illegitimate grandbaby. Think there are more secrets?

(PS. Unwed mothering isn't a big deal UNLESS you are a crazy Christian Fundy running on those issues.)

(PPS. Brilliant by the Obama campaign to say, "Back off these kinds of stories," because you know the media can't leave this alone.)

  • I just saw the news and hopped over here to see if you were on it. Good work, MikeVotes. If I were a "God is behind this..." type, I'd think that maybe he doesn't want us to elect a Republican president!

  • But, again, her supporters are going to find a way to look right past this. Christian redemption, she's marrying the father, whatever.

The real boom to me is that it may open the media to really see if they can find something else.

I think this declares it officially open season.

  • "Palin's daughter gets to make the choice, but, John McCain and Sarah Palin want no other woman to have that choice."

This has got to make it onto the media's radar. The corporate media types aren't exactly the brightest bulbs in the chandelier, but surely they can connect the two adjacent dots.

However, I have a feeling what they mean by this...

Bristol Palin made the decision on her own to keep the baby, McCain aides said.

is that Bristol made the choice to keep the baby as opposed to giving it up for adoption. Still, the "choice" issue -- as well as sex ed. and birth control, and individual freedoms -- is out there.

Regarding other "secrets," there has to be. There almost always are with the ultra-self-righteous. Maybe they find Mr. Sarah Palin has a porn addiction. Or the kid heading out to Iraq is gay.

How much you want to bet there will be mock outrage among the GOP whenever Bristol's love child is mentioned... Like Cheney's "How dare you mention my gay daughter -- whom I'm very proud of -- is gay!"

This could get interesting.... Only in America, baby.

  • Whereas the MSM never picks up rumors floated on Drudge or Rush.

  • That's a really good point about adoption. That language is always used in reference to abortion. Good catch.

I figure there are other secrets because we've already heard so many, and we're only three days in.

And, I'm confident they will find ways to excuse Palin, but it starts doubts, and certainly is a big strike on McCain.

    ....

Praguetwin, true, but, if you read that post on Kos (A diary, not frontpager) the evidence is extremely circumstantial.

Of course, according to the article, the media viewed it as worth checking out.

  • EPM, you made such a good point about the "keep the baby" language that I pulled that section out of the post.

(Decided it was better than lengthening the post more with an explanation/clarification.

After all, y'all like me because I'm brief.)

However, I've also seen the language, "have her baby."

Anyway, I'll leave it aside for now just to avoid any confusion

  • I didn't go to journalism school for nothing. I said yesterday that the KOS story wasn't made of hard facts, but it at least had enough legs to be something worth looking into by the MSM, as there were some interesting points made in the diary.

The thing I find most curious about this whole debacle is that the McCain campaign came out and gave it the time of day to actually acknowledge these "rampant internet rumors."

That alone makes me think something is fishy about the whole thing, but I don't want to get uber conspiracy theory over it all.

But if she's supposedly already five months along and *shudder* McCain wins, it will be interesting to see when this baby is actually born.

  • I know, and now those rumors keep getting repeated in all the coverage.

As we learned from the swiftboaters, a charge repeated by mainstream media gains credibility regardless of its merits.

The amazing thing to me is that mainstream media was chasing the rumor which led to the uncovering of this pregnancy.

This whole thing smells funny to me as well.

By Blogger mikevotes, at 9:13 PM

  • Why does everyone seem to be willing to accept that just because Bristol's pregnant, that she can't also be Trig's biological mother?

Are we just supposed to accept the "five months" figure from the McCain campaign?

I lay you a dollar to a dime Bristol delivers well into her tenth or eleventh month, or miscarries.

Sarah Palin is a master of deception. Don't let the bimbo act fool you.

  • I don't know.

Just as a general rule, on the more speculative stuff, I leave it off the front page. I try to only promote stuff when it hits a major media outlet just so I don't end up spreading bad stuff. I always fell bad afterwards sending people off with bad information.

I will say this, though. We learned yesterday that the mainstream reporeters were looking into all this (that's why this story broke,) so if there is something there, somebody may well find it.

Even if the McCain camp's version puts off the topline media, I guarantee there are some 2nd rank investigative reporters digging on that. After all, that would be a career making story and an entrance into journalism history.

So, I don't know if there's anything there, but I feel assured that somebody's still trying to find out.
