Anecdotal and early polling says Palin not a hit with women.

Editor and Publisher has some early polling which seems to show "Palin reaching Clinton supporters" is, so far, a flop. (However it's still early and "who the hell is she?" still outpolls either pro or con.)

And the NYTimes has an anecdotal saying it will shore up Republican women, but Clinton supporters aren't biting.

Palin seems to have lots of enemies in Alaska.

Also, it's interesting to me that that the McCain campaign feels the need to push back against the first "tick tock" version they released of her selection. (I guess that "VP on a whim" storyline just isn't working out.)

(But we do learn they only met for 15 minutes at their one meeting at the Governor's association.)

And, "Troopergate" reaches the front page of the WaPo.

(Their introduction of Palin at the convention will be everything.)

  • One Republican voice on NPR this morning praises "one maverick for picking another maverick" as running mate. The meme of corruption busters willing to go after their own party was repeated a few times. Is McCain running as independent or a Republican? This is a tricky balance. McCain has been all over the map on who he is and what he stands for politically.

To the uninformed, the GOP have a chance to frame Palin any way they want. Take that "hockey mom" and outdoors women nugget of truth, ignore all the ugly inconvenient facts and make up new ones to sell her as a selfless crusader of corruption. But then there's that pesky investigation....

One of the things I'm sure of now, is that this pick was meant to be a distraction. It's completely sidelined any talk about security, economy, healthcare, foreign policy... They're all talking about moose burgers, hunting, and mommy stuff.

The Dems -- and I mean more then Obama/Biden -- had better be ready to campaign hard against the sort of phony "change" message the Repubs will be dishing out. (Change, sure. Change to be more socially conservative and more an agent of the far right wing.) The Dems need to remind people what's at stake.... the real issues for real Americans, not gimmicks and fluff

  • You know, though, she does one interview and it all comes out. Christian crazy, lack of experience, troopergate.

Even if she answers these well, they enter the stream.

And I think they're waiting to see how the polling goes through the convention before they make any sudden moves.

They likely wouldn't get any significant attention anyway, so , you'll see a launch, from both parties, after..
